Dr Bell was the England Cricket team doctor from 1995-2001, touring with them to South Africa in 1995-96, and India and Pakistan in 1996. He helped establish the England & Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) Science and Medicine Advisory Group (SMAG), with the remit of establishing world-class science and medicine support to England Cricket. He ruptured his own (Rt) ACL bowling a cricket ball.
He has published on back pain in cricket fast bowlers, and abdominal muscle tears and forearm chronic exertional compartment syndromes (CECS) in professional tennis players. He teaches and lectures nationally and internationally, is an examiner to the University of Bath and the Faculty and lectures at the University of Nottingham.
Dr Bell is committed to the multidisciplinary care of athletes, particularly in non-contact sports; where injury is related to what they do and how they do it; where knowing the sport is key and surgical solutions are limited.
