Ron McCulloch holds a senior Consultant post at the Homerton University Hospital (HUH) where he performs a comprehensive range of elective pedal surgeries of the forefoot, midfoot and rearfoot while specialising in non-elective diabetic limb salvage surgery.
Ron has trained doctors and specialists in fields such as Orthopedic Surgery, as well as teaching and mentoring podiatrists who are on the podiatric surgery pathway. He has also pioneered new surgical techniques in the United Kingdom, including minimally invasive cryosurgery under ultrasound guidance for conditions such as Morton’s neuroma.
Ron McCulloch consults in private practice for several elite, professional sports clubs including Arsenal Football Club. He has consulted and provided an expert opinion for Nike on biomechanics, gait analysis and football boot design. Due to his substantive experience in sports medicine, he was recruited as a lead Podiatry Consultant at the 2012 London Olympics.
Ron lectures extensively and has co-written a chapter in a core textbook concerning the Surgical Implications of Benign Joint Hypermobility Syndrome. He has a special interest in diagnostic ultrasound of the foot and ankle. Having recently attained an MSc degree in Medical Ultrasound at distinction level, he now lectures and teaches diagnostic ultrasound of the foot and ankle to fellow specialists and medics from a range of disciplines at The Centre of Ultrasound Studies, Bournemouth University.
Ron has a special interest in biomechanics, gait analysis and the management of complex injuries by conservative and surgical means. He is particularly interested in how traumatic lower limb injuries impact on gait. In this respect, he has undertaken the appropriate medico legal training with Bond Salon and have provided medico legal opinions and reports on the effects of injury on gait.
